Ziwen Xiang spent five important developmental years at China National Opera where, having begun in the professional ensemble, he ended his time there as a designated a Principal Soloist. Under the auspices of this company he was heard in both opera and concert in numerous countries including Italy, Syria, and Turkey.

Mr. Xiang moved to the USA in 2014, and that July made his American Operatic debut as Alfredo in Verdi’s La Traviata in Martina Arroyo’s Young Artist Prelude Development Program in New York City. That fall he began his studies at New York’s prestigious Manhattan School of Music, where he was under the tutelage of Joan Patenaude-Yarnell and Marlena Malas. He earned a Master of Music Degree in Voice Performance, May 2016.

In March 2019 Mr. Xiang was featured at the Sino U.S. Artist Association as tenor soloist in their Spring Concert, and at New York’s Opera America as the Duke in scenes from Verdi’s Rigoletto. As a founding member of Preferite Verdie Puccini, Ziwen was interviewed on the iconic Woodstock Radio to announce the trio’s debut performance at The Old Dutch Church in Kingston NY. The trio will make their NYC debut at Lincoln Center Library this winter, and has an upcoming national tour in the planning stages. In June he made his debut at New York City Opera in their world premiere performance of Stonewall, by Ian Bell and Mark Campbell. 2018 featured Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi in his debut at the Metropolitan Opera Guild’s special member lecture performances.

Operatic performances to his credit include Puccini’s La Bohême (Rodolfo) and La Rondine (Prunier), Verdi’s La Traviata (Alfredo) and Rigoletto (Duke), Otto Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor (Fenton), and Donizetti’s Don Pasquale (Ernesto). On the concert stage he has been heard as tenor soloist in Mozart’s C Minor Mass and Verdi’s Requiem, conducted by Mr. Kent Tritle, music director of the prestigious Cathedral of St. John the Divine. He sang the Bach’s Cantata BWV 140, and Handel’s Messiah at Co-Cathedral of St.Joseph. Mr. Xiang made his New York Recital debut at Carnegie Hall in March 2017.
